Rounded Minds-Sports Exploration

Experience the new beneficial bilingual teaching methods of Rounded Minds. This 6-week program is a great way for children to experience a variety of new sports and activities in a format that is structured, engaging, and most of all…. FUN! This program prepares children for organized Sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Children will have an opportunity to explore a new sport each day, learn some basic skills, and participate in fun games that will reinforce listening, teamwork, and the joy of being active! We focus on fundamental motor skills and coordination. This will provide them confidence to participate in athletics as they grow older. Every Rounded Minds™ class is designed and led by attentive experts committed to providing safe, creative and fun educational experiences. Our unique programming focuses on building strong bodies and minds, simultaneously along with the benefits of natural bilingual learning at an early age. Swim Endurance Training

Our 4 week program we will help you work on your technique, and increase your endurance using a variety of drills. Monday and Wednesday at 5:45-6:45 a.m. Half sessions and drop in rates available. Guests of the club would be charged additional guest fees per session. First week of class will be Wednesday and Friday due to Labor Day Holiday. American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED

The Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age - adults(about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED valid for two years. This is a blended learning class which requires an online portion to be completed prior to the in person portion of the class. After registering, a link to The American Red Cross online learning will be emailed to complete the online portion of the training. Tae Kwon Do

Learn Self-defense for all ages with prairie life fitness. Prairie life fitness has paired up with Chung Kim's Black Belt Academy, a korean influenced martial art, to offer everyone of any age excellent training in self-defense, faster reflexes, a stronger mind and stronger body. This program will cover everything that is relevant for children( bullying, self-control, self-defense against a bigger attacker, discipline in the home and at school) and for teens to adults( what signs of trouble to look for, young girls and woman self-defense against a stonger attacker, core strength, confidence in one self to use defense when needed and becoming more alert to your surroundings). Mr. Mike Taylor, a 4th degree black belt with chung kim's black belt academy, has been training for over 21 years and teaching with prairie life now for 10 years successfully! Children and adults have enjoyed taekwondo parties, outings and tournament competitions with Mr. Taylor and Prairie life fitness. If interested in taking lessons here are the times for classes: Monday- All ages and belts in the big gym from 5:30-6:30pm Friday- 5-5:30pm "Little Tigers" Ages 4-7 Friday- 5:30-6:15 Ages 8 and up White belts to Green belts Friday- 6:15-7pm Red belts to Black belts Saturday- 11:30-12:30pm ages 8yrs and up White belt through Black belt Sunday- 5:30-6:15pm Little Tigers Sunday- 6:15-7pm Red belts through Black belts *Times are subject to change due to colored belt or black belt testings and tournaments out of town. Prairie Life Fitness Youth Basketball: Our program emphasizes the importance of teamwork and a healthy lifestyle for all ages and skill levels with focus on communication and leadership through basketball. Group Player Development (Available year-round) Develop overall skill set and compete in game situations, players are made here. Youth Swimming Lessons

Youth Stroke Clinics

Refine your stroke for more efficient swimming. This 4 week clinic will work on a different stroke each week. Strokes include Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Participants must be able to complete at least one full length of the pool at a time. Contact Aquatics Director, Carl Swauger, with questions at cswauger@prairielife.com or (515)223-5999. Minimum of 3 participants. This clinic is not part of the youth group swim lessons. Guests of the club will be changed and additional $6 per class.

Youth Swim Team

Our non-competitive swim team is a great way for kids to stay in shape and learn more about swimming working on endurance and stroke technique for Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke. Goal is complete 1200-2000 yards each workout. Prerequisites are required and include: Able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, breaststroke, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. Tread for a tim span of 1-minute minimum Entry knowledge of sidestroke and butterfly Prerequisites will be tested at the beginning of day 1. If a participant is not able to complete our prerequisites they may not continue. Minimum of 3 participants. Swim Team is not part of the youth group swim lessons. Guests of the club will be charged an additional $6 per session.

Fish 1

This level is intended for children 3+. Before entering Fish 1 kids should be able to be comfortable working with an instructor and comfortable putting their face in the water. The primary goals of Fish 1 are to gain a greater level of confidence in the water and to learn basic water safety. Kids will practice blowing bubbles, kicking their feet, and floating on their backs. All swimming in this level is done with the assistance of an instructor. This class has a capacity to ensure proper instructor to participant ratios. Once the class is full, participants will be placed on a standby list. ***There will be a $5 fee (per lession) for participants registered on a membership qualified for free group swimming lessons who do not attend. Fish 2

This level is intended for children 4+. Before entering Fish 2, kids must be able to blow bubbles, put their face in the water, and be able to float on their back with the assistance of an instructor. The primary goals of Fish 2 is to introduce basic water skills. We will putting our faces in the water, kicking our feet, and using our arms to swim. We will also work with kids to begin learning introductory backstroke. In this level kids will practice pushing off the wall short distances to the instructor. This level is intended for children 4+. Before entering Fish 3, kids must be able to push off the wall short distances to an instructor, be comfortable transitioning from their stomach to their back, and able to float on their back without help of the instructor. The primary goals of Fish 3 are to learn to transition from stomach to back to breathe in freestyle. In this level we will introduce the basics of breaststroke. This level is intended for children 4+. Before entering Fish 4, kids must know freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. They should be comfortable transitioning from their stomach to their back for a breath during freestyle. This class has a capacity to ensure proper instructor to participant ratios. In Fish 4, we work primarily on technique for freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. We will help kids learn to breathe to the side on freestyle, proper kicking for backstroke, correct arm pulls for breaststroke, and much more! Waterbabies

This level is intended for children 6 months - 3 years. In waterbabies, parents will work with babies in the water. The goal is to get babies more comfortable in the water before beginning group lessons. We play games, sing songs, and have fun while learning water safety. We will practice becoming comfortable kicking, splashing, and putting faces in the water to blow bubbles. Once the class is full, participants will be placed on a standby list for this reason there will be a $5 fee for participants registered who do not show up. Guests of the club will be charged an additional $6 per class.
