American Red Cross Certifications

American Red Cross Lifeguard Review

An abbreviated Lifeguarding course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years. Prerequisites are: 1. Be at Least 15 years old. 2. Swim 300 yard continuously using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, demonstrating rhythmic breathing and breath control. 3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs and hands under the armpits. 4. Swim a distance of 25 yards dive 7-10' retrieve a 10lb object return to surface swim back to starting point with object out of the water and exit water without using ladder or stairs within 1 minute 40 seconds. 5. Current ARC Lifeguard Certification, OR not expired for more than 30 days. Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches

The Safety Training for Swim Coaches course, developed in partnership with USA Swimming, is intended to teach those involved in competitive swimming how to help maintain a comfortable and safe environment for swimmers, prevent accidents and emergencies and respond to swimmers with illnesses or injuries in water or on land. Before attending this facility-based in-water skills session, participants must complete the Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only course (HSSAQU303) which includes the web-based delivery of content and an online exam. Participants must be 15 years or older. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Safety Training for Swim Coaches/First Aid which is valid for 2 years. CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers (CPRO)

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers (CPRO) program trains individuals with a duty to act including lifeguards, EMS personnel, police, security personnel, firefighters and athletic trainers—to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. This course is also intended for individuals serving in roles that would be called upon to provide support in emergency situations, such as aquatic facility, gym/fitness club or community/recreation center staff. This course is a blended learning course with an online portion of approximately 3 hours that MUST be completed prior to the first day of training. Swim Endurance Training

Our 4 week program we will help you work on your technique, and increase your endurance using a variety of drills. Adult Group Swimming

Adult Group Swimming is an intermediate group swim class for adults who know how to swim but want improve their swimming. Class will focuses on refining their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Working on turns, endurance and lap swimming will also be covered in this class. So even if you haven’t had swim lessons since you were a kid, or just want to get a great low impact cardio workout with swimming, this class is for you! Prairie Life Fitness Youth Programs is committed to providing an educational and fun filled summer to youngsters ages 3-12. Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do

Grand Master Greg Ferry has been dedicated to the disciplines of Martial Arts since he began his training in 1977 under an original Korean Master. His many years of experience have earned him several high rankings and honors which make him one of the most well respected Martial Artists in the United States today. He is currently an 8th degree Grand Master in the ITF style of Tae Kwon Do. Grand Master Ferry also holds a black belt in WTF Tae Kwon Do. His other rankings include a black belt in Hapkido and a brown belt in Gracie-style Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In addition to his rankings, Master Ferry has earned the Samurai Award for lifetime achievement from the International Federation of Jiu Jitsuans. He is a 2006 inductee for Master of the Year within the World Karate Union Hall of Fame, and has held several rankings for national competition. Youth Swimming Lessons

Youth Swim Team

Our non-competitive swim team is a great way for kids to stay in shape and learn more about swimming working on endurance and stroke technique for Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly. Goal is complete 1200 + yards each workout. Prerequisites are required and include: Able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke. Tread for a tim span of 1-minute minimum Entry knowledge of sidestroke and butterfly Prerequisites will be tested at the beginning of day 1. If a participant is not able to complete our prerequisites they may not continue. Cost of the class is $65 for 2 days or $95 for all 3. Options for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Single day option available for $35, contact Aquatics Director for more information. Minimum of 3 participants. Swim Team is not part of the youth group swim lessons. Guests fees of $6 per session are included in the non member rate. Class requires 48 hour notice for cancelations, or there will be a $10 per child fee charged. This level is intended for children 3+. Before entering Fish 1 kids should be able to be comfortable working with an instructor and comfortable putting their face in the water. The primary goals of Fish 1 are to gain a greater level of confidence in the water and to learn basic water safety. Kids will practice blowing bubbles, kicking their feet, and floating on their backs. All swimming in this level is done with the assistance of an instructor. This class has a capacity to ensure proper instructor to participant ratios. Once the class is full, participants will be placed on a standby list. ***There will be a $5 fee (per lession) for participants registered on a membership qualified for free group swimming lessons who do not attend. Fish 2

This level is intended for children 4+. Before entering Fish 2, kids must be able to blow bubbles, put their face in the water, and be able to float on their back with the assistance of an instructor. The primary goals of Fish 2 is to introduce basic water skills. We will putting our faces in the water, kicking our feet, and using our arms to swim. We will also work with kids to begin learning introductory backstroke. In this level kids will practice pushing off the wall short distances to the instructor. The primary goals of Fish 3 are to learn to transition from stomach to back to breathe in freestyle. In this level we will introduce the basics of breaststroke. This level is intended for children 4+. Before entering Fish 4, kids must know freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. They should be comfortable transitioning from their stomach to their back for a breath during freestyle. This class has a capacity to ensure proper instructor to participant ratios. In Fish 4, we work primarily on technique for freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. Fish 5

This level is intended for children 5+. Before entering Fish 5, kids must be able to properly swim a length of backstroke, freestyle, and breaststroke. In Fish 5, we will introduce butterfly. Kids will have the opportunity to practice skills that will prepare them for swim team, such as, flip turns, stream lines, and proper techniques for all four strokes. Polliwogs 1

This level is intended for children 3+. This is the first level of group swimming lessons at Prairie Life. Waterbabies

This level is intended for children 6 months - 3 years. In waterbabies, parents will work with babies in the water. The goal is to get babies more comfortable in the water before beginning group lessons. We play games, sing songs, and have fun while learning water safety. We will practice becoming comfortable kicking, splashing, and putting faces in the water to blow bubbles. Once the class is full, participants will be placed on a standby list for this reason there will be a $5 fee for participants registered who do not show up. Guests fee if $6 per class is included in the non member price.

Youth Swim for Fitness

Youth Swim for Fitness is great for kids to stay active in the water, learn to work on their swim strokes and have fun at the same time! Class will work on refining their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. YSFF will also cover butterfly, turns and building endurance. If you child is interested in swimming on a swim team, this is a great way to prepare for the next step. Participants should be able to swim 25 continuous yards freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, backfloat and tread water for 1 minute, entry knowledge of butterfly helpful but not required. This class will be 75% technique, 25% coaching. Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday 5:15-6:00 and Saturday 9:05-9:50. Students may sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 days. $35 for one day, $65 for 2 days, or $95 for all three days. Class requires minimum of 3 participants.
