American Red Cross Certifications

Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED (blended)

The Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age - adults(about 12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED valid for two years. This is a blended learning class which requires an online portion of approximately 1 1/2 hours to be completed prior to the in person portion of the class. American Red Cross Lifeguard Review

An abbreviated Lifeguarding course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years. Prerequisites are: 1. Be at Least 15 years old. 2. Swim 300 yard continuously using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, demonstrating rhythmic breathing and breath control. 3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs and hands under the armpits. 4. Swim a distance of 25 yards dive 7-10' retrieve a 10lb object return to surface swim back to starting point with object out of the water and exit water without using ladder or stairs within 1 minute 40 seconds. 5. Current ARC Lifeguard Certification, OR not expired for more than 30 days. The extended format is spread out over 2 1/2 weeks on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings to help accommodate busy schedules. Prairie Life Fitness Youth Programs is committed to providing an educational and fun filled summer to youngsters ages 3-12. Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do

Grand Master Greg Ferry has been dedicated to the disciplines of Martial Arts since he began his training in 1977 under an original Korean Master. His many years of experience have earned him several high rankings and honors which make him one of the most well respected Martial Artists in the United States today. He is currently an 8th degree Grand Master in the ITF style of Tae Kwon Do. Grand Master Ferry also holds a black belt in WTF Tae Kwon Do. His other rankings include a black belt in Hapkido and a brown belt in Gracie-style Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In addition to his rankings, Master Ferry has earned the Samurai Award for lifetime achievement from the International Federation of Jiu Jitsuans. He is a 2006 inductee for Master of the Year within the World Karate Union Hall of Fame, and has held several rankings for national competition. Youth Swimming Lessons

Youth Master Swim

Upgrade your swim workouts in technique, endurance, and drills for all four strokes swimming 1500 yards and more. Class meets 2x per week. Prerequisites are required and include: Able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, breaststroke, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. Tread for a time span of 1-minute minimum Entry knowledge of sidestroke and butterfly Prerequisites will be tested at the beginning of day 1. If a participant is not able to complete our prerequisites they may not continue. Minimum of 3 participants

Youth Swim for Fitness

Youth Swim for Fitness is great for kids to stay active in the water, learn to work on their swim strokes and have fun at the same time! Class will work on refining their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. YSFF will also cover butterfly, turns and building endurance. If you child is interested in swimming on a swim team, this is a great way to prepare for the next step. Participants should be able to swim 25 continuous yards freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, backfloat and tread water for 1 minute, entry knowledge of butterfly helpful but not required. This class will be 75% technique, 25% coaching. Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday 5:15-6:00 and Saturday 9:05-9:50. Students may sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 days. $35 for one day, $65 for 2 days, or $95 for all three days. Class requires minimum of 3 participants. Fish 1

This level is intended for children 3+. Before entering Fish 1 kids should be able to be comfortable working with an instructor and comfortable putting their face in the water. The primary goals of Fish 1 are to gain a greater level of confidence in the water and to learn basic water safety. Kids will practice blowing bubbles, kicking their feet, and floating on their backs. All swimming in this level is done with the assistance of an instructor. The primary goals of Fish 3 are to learn to transition from stomach to back to breathe in freestyle. In this level we will introduce the basics of breaststroke. This level is intended for children 4+. Before entering Fish 4, kids must know freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. They should be comfortable transitioning from their stomach to their back for a breath during freestyle. This class has a capacity to ensure proper instructor to participant ratios. In Fish 4, we work primarily on technique for freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. We will help kids learn to breathe to the side on freestyle, proper kicking for backstroke, correct arm pulls for breaststroke, and much more! Waterbabies

This level is intended for children 6 months - 3 years. In waterbabies, parents will work with babies in the water. The goal is to get babies more comfortable in the water before beginning group lessons. We play games, sing songs, and have fun while learning water safety. We will practice becoming comfortable kicking, splashing, and putting faces in the water to blow bubbles. Once the class is full, participants will be placed on a standby list for this reason there will be a $5 fee for participants registered who do not show up.
